Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America -

Bibliophile - - lists over three million rare and used books for sale by independent booksellers worldwide. The system "puts you in direct contact with the booksellers so there are no price markups." Includes fine press volumes, rare editions, old books, new books, maps, autographs, manuscripts.

Bibliopoly - - A database of rare and antiquarian books which provides the ability to search in 250 subject categories and date range field and includes an extensive multilingual dictionary of author and place names. Users may also search for books by the language in which they were written. All dealers on Bibliopoly must either be members of an ILAB affiliated organisation or recommended by those booksellers who are.

Bookfinder - is a one-stop search site that lets users view the collections of over 40,000 sellers of new, used, rare, and out-of-print books.

Book Reviews

New York Review of Books
Full text of selected articles from the current issue, plus a full-text archive of reviews and articles that have appeared in this influential journal since November 1996. Provides an index of contents from 1993 to date. Site has an excellent search engine.

New York Times Books
The database contains the full text of more than 50,000 book reviews that have appeared in the New York Times since 1980. The site also gives the full text of the daily book review and selected reviews from the most recent issue of the paper's Sunday Book Review. Other features include author interviews, first chapters of new books, audio of literary readings, bestseller lists, and book forums. Free service, but first-time visitors must register.


Free e-booknet - According to their Web site "free e-BookNet's mission is to build the eBook community. We aim to be the best-known and highest quality place on the Web for people interested in electronic books to exchange news, information, ideas, and writings. eBookNet is both a clubhouse for the eBook-aware and a welcome center for those new to the technology. Our news and feature pages cover all aspects of electronic books, including hardware, software, writing, publishing, and business developments."

Open Library - The Open Library project began in November 2007 and has been collecting catalog records from some of the biggest libraries in the world ever since. They offer over 20 million edition records online, provide access to 1.7 million scanned versions of books, and link to external sources like WorldCat and Amazon.

Full Text Online

These sites offer full-text versions of classics which are no longer under copyright. (usually nothing published after 1923).

Bibliomania -
Included here are fully searchable full-text editions of classic works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and even a few reference titles. The complete plays of Shakespeare are featured, as well as major titles from Austen, Dickens, Twain, Freud, Benjamin Franklin,Vatsyayana, and a host of others. New titles are being added. The search function is quick and easy, and the layout clean and uncomplicated, making the site accessible to visually impaired readers. Project Gutenberg - Volunteers have created this well known site which includes "classic books from the start of this century and previous centuries, from authors like Shakespeare, Poe, Dante, as well as well-loved favorites like the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the Tarzan and Mars books of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Alice's adventures in Wonderland as told by Lewis Carroll, and thousands of others.

Internet Public Library Online Text Collection -
The IPL Online Texts Collection contains over 13,000 titles that can be browsed by author, by title, or by Dewey Decimal Classification.

This site compares prices at 28 ("and growing") independent and chain online bookstores. Your search will show whether a book is in stock or back-ordered, how soon it will be shipped, and the approximate shipping cost. The site searches for all kinds of books, including new and used books, textbooks, audio books, and out-of-print books.

Booklist Each year Booklist reviews nearly 4,000 books for adults, more than 2,500 titles for children, more than 500 reference books and electronic reference tools, and 1,000 other audiovisual materials. They also publish a wide variety of feature articles including author interviews, bibliographies, and book-related essays by well-known writers.

Student Textbooks
Buy, sell, trade and rent textbooks online. A nice alternative to the often overpriced college bookstores.


Banned Books - This American Library Association's Web site includes lists of challenged and banned books, quotes about censorship, and links to many articles and other sites on the topic of censorship.

Best Books Of The Year This on-line version of the Library Journal has links to book reviews including the "Best Of" for the year.

BookArts Web - - Information is available on letterpress printing, typography, hand book binding and paper making, rare book dealers and conservation of library materials. Included are home pages of individual book artists, printers, and bookbinders and their organizations, several listservs with searchable archives, specialized bibliographies and links to a variety of arts organizations.

Bookspot - "simplifies the search for the best online texts, book reviews, reading lists, author and publisher information, book stores, book news, events and more."
