Mark McCumber

Mark McCumber and his wife Jeanine both grew up in Colonie, Mark graduated from Shaker and Jeanine graduated from Colonie.

Mark is a veteran of the United States Navy and recently retired from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) where he worked as an Air Traffic Controller for over 35 years.

Mark began his FAA career at the Albany County Airport, before his career took him to Philadelphia and then to New York. Mark and Jeanine wanted to raise their two children (Christopher & Jennifer) in Colonie, so Mark returned to the Albany County Airport as the Manager of Air Traffic in 2003.

In 2017 he became the Air Traffic Control Manager of LaGuardia Airport in New York, while still maintaining his residence in Colonie.

The teaching and training of others has always been one of Mark’s passions. During Mark’s career he was an FAA Collaboration Facilitator. Throughout his career he traveled around the country teaching Collaboration skills (teamwork), Communication skills, and Leadership skills to Air Traffic Control managers and to National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) Union leadership.

After the 2020 census, Mark was appointed as a commissioner to the Albany County Redistricting Commission which was tasked with redrawing all Albany County Legislative Districts.

In 2022, Mark was selected to be a member of Colonie’s Conservation Advisory Council. The team worked on several projects including Conservation Day in Colonie. Mark has also recently received certification as a Certified Life Coach through Coaches Training Alliance.
