Before you get started

All dogs four months of age or older residing within the Town of Colonie must be licensed as a matter of public safety.

Apply for a license

The license application can be done in person or by mail. Application form contains:

• owner's name and address
• name, breed and age, color and other markings of the dog

When submitting the application by mail, use the address on the contact section of this page.

Submit certificate of altering

At the time of the original license application, a certificate of altering must be presented if the dog has been spayed or neutered. Such one-time proof will be sufficient for the life of the dog.

Submit proof of rabies vaccination

Proof of current rabies vaccination is also required.

Pay the applicable fee

When submitting the application, include the applicable fee. Fees are as follow:

• Altered dog: $10.00 / year
• Unaltered dog: $20.00 / year

Senior Discounts for dog owners aged 65 or older result in the following fees:

• Altered dog: $5.00 / year
• Unaltered dog: $15.00 / year

Renew your license

A license is valid for one year from the date of issuance. A renewal notice will be sent to the owner one month prior to the expiration date. Renewal is returned to our office along with the annual fee and updated rabies if current date not on file.
