If the pre-demolition asbestos survey indicates the presence of asbestos, it must be abated in accordance with the attached regulations and a follow-up survey completed showing all asbestos has been removed. A copy of this survey must be transmitted to the building owner, the Asbestos Control Bureau District Office and the Building Department.

How to obtain a Demolition Permit
Submit an Application for Building and Zoning Permit
The application for Building and Zoning Permit must be submitted prior to contacting other departments as noted in Step #2.

Submit written verification of compliance
The applicant must submit written verification from the following authorities that services have been removed and/or requirements have been complied with in order to have a structure demolished:

Submit Certificate of Insurance
The demolition contractor must submit a Certificate of Insurance showing General Liability:
- The Certificate of Insurance needs to list the Town of Colonie as the Certificate Holder.
- The Certificate of Insurance must state "demo at" along with the address of demolition in the description field.
- Town of Colonie does not need to be listed as an additional insured.
- Proof of Workers Compensation is required on either the C-105.2 or the U26.3 form. See Insurance Info Packet for additional information.
Submit a written authorization from the property owner
Prior to issuing a permit, the applicant must submit written authorization from the property owner for the demolition, and certification that the site will be cleaned up and left in a safe condition within thirty (30) days of demolition.
Obtain a Pre-demolition Asbestos Survey
A Pre-demolition Asbestos Survey is required before the issuance of a building permit by the New York State Department of Labor per Section 12NYCRR Part 56-5 for all structures built before January 1, 1974.
