Key Dates Affecting the Assessment Process

Please keep in mind:

Exemption Filing Deadline - March 1
The last day for filing all exemption applications for the current year. Applications may be filed subsequent to March 1, effective for the following year.

Taxable Status Date - March 1
The date property is valued according to ownership and condition each year.

Tentative Assessment Roll Filing May 1, 2023
The Town of Colonie Tentative Assessment Roll will be filed May 1st of each year.

Grievance Day is the 4th Tuesday in May — May 23, 2023
Your complaint must be received in the Assessor's Office by 8:00 pm on Grievance Day. Postmark date on the same day of Grievance Day is not acceptable. Click here for additional information.

Final Assessment Roll Filing — July 1, 2023
The Town of Colonie Final Assessment Roll will be filed July 1st of each year.

If you believe your assessment is incorrect, please feel free to contact the Town of Colonie Assessor's Office. Our appraisal staff will be happy to listen to your concerns regarding your assessment. The following information may help you prepare for your meeting with us so that we may understand your situation:

If you are not satisfied with the determination made by the assessor after the informal review process, a complaint may be filed with the Town of Colonie Board of Assessment Review. The dates for filing the complaint form are between May 1st, 2023 and May 23, 2023.

A grievance complaint form may be filed after May 1; but no later than May 23, 2023. Form #RP-524 may be obtained at the Assessor's Office beginning May 1 or at the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance website. The property owner or representative has the burden of proof in an assessment challenge. Please note: service by electronic means are not accepted.
